Home office paper shredders are flying off the shelves
Christmas 2005 will should be a banner year for the home
office paper shredder. For the first time, a major
manufacturer has hit the airwaves promoting the one big item
that very few have, that everyone needs. Fellowes has
begun running late night ads for their Bulldog line of
shredders. And their market timing has been
considered. This summer the FTC passed the Disposal
Rule, which requires everyone, both business, home business
and individuals to properly destroy information. And
with this new rule, paper shredding companies are posting
record sales, and are looking forward to their best overall
sales totals.
This sales increase is not being driven by strong
marketing campaigns or the FTC rule, of which many people
are currently unaware. The sales may be slightly
attributed to the price decreases for home office paper
shredders, along with the fact that they make great gifts
for those who have everything, and for the growing crowd of
gadget lovers. Some of the purchases are no doubt
driven by a fear of credit theft and identity theft.
But the real reason for this booming year of paper shredder
sales for the home office is not based simply on fear, it is
based on the realization that identity theft and fraud is
real. It is a crime that is estimated to strike up to
ten million individuals per year in the United States alone.
Not only is the crime pervasive, it is extremely
destructive. Those who are victims can expect to spend
hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to correct the
injustice. A problem that one nice Christmas gift
could quickly solve.
Don't roll the dice another year. Go to your local
office supply store or shop for a unit online. Out of
all the insurance that you purchase each year, this is
probably the least costly.
