AHIMA and Paper Shredders

Founded in 1928, AHIMA is a company that has grown to over 50,000 members.  AHIMA or the American Health Information Management Association exists to the proper management of personal health information (PHI).  The organization spearheads initiatives to better the handling of personal health information through education, advocacy and certification courses.  The information provided covers everything from digital information handling to crosscut paper shredders to handle the destruction of the PHI of providers to aid in the prevention of identity theft and fraud.

Members of the AHIMA are able to tap into the vast amount of resources that the association offers, including discounts on meetings, discounts on trade publications, free subscriptions to journals and a subscription to the Journal of AHIMA, as well as discounts on online learning courses. AHIMA membership allows also is extended to the state level, where members can have the chance to network with professionals in their area.  Additionally the money that goes to AHIMA is used to provide a voice to the government and help shape legislation that affects the whole of the industry.  Health information management entails many different disciplines, and extend far beyond paper shredders and shredding technology.  A member of AHIMA can expect to stay on the forefront of new technologies and products that will shape their business, and help keep them up to date on new laws, regulations and health related happening.

  Located in Phoenix, Arizona, the National Association for Information Destruction is an international, non-profit trade association for the information destruction industry.  NAID is made up of suppliers, as well companies and individuals that are in the information destruction business.  The primary focus of the NAID is "to educate business, industry and government of the importance of destroying discarded information and the value of contract destruction services." NAID provides literature for promoting the shredding industry, including NAIDnews, which is a journal that keeps shredding industry professional abreast of the latest regulations and news in the information destruction business.
